Notre Dame Cathedral Suffered Terrible Destruction

On Apr. 15, 2019, a massive blaze at Notre Dame Cathedral, famous landmark of France, devastated large parts of the 850-year-old church in Paris, including the iconic spire.

Notre Dame Cathedral, a medieval Catholic cathedral, was considered to be one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture. Its innovative use of rib vault and flying buttress, enormous and colorful rose windows, and the naturalism and abundance of its sculptural decoration set it apart from the earlier Romanesque style. But now most of the cathedral’s roof was destroyed, as well as the iconic spire.

Not only citizens of Paris, the whole world was astonished and sad for the cathedral’s suffering. "I’m devastated for the people of Paris. I was there on my honeymoon, and I just saw the cathedral for the first time yesterday morning." said a twitter user who is in Paris for her honeymoon. “Notre-Dame de Paris est Notre-Dame de toute l’Europe. We are all with Paris today.” Donald Tusk wrote on Twitter, President of the European Council.

Fortunately, the fire now is under control. And it seems to be an accidental fire, not deliberate arson or terrorist attack. President Macron has announced formally that the Notre Dame Cathedral will be rebuilt, so we may have chance to see it again in the future, not just in memory.

Bless the Notre Dame Cathedral.
