Highlights of Building Your Own Climbing Wall

It is fun and challenging to build a climbing wall. You are sure to find it a rewarding experience in itself, and you will get many benefits from your climbing wall for years to come. A home climbing wall does not need to be complex. You can get an excellent workout on a straight or slightly overhung, straight floor-to-ceiling wall. Here are some Highlights of Building Your Own Climbing Wall for your reference:

Planning. In this phase you define your training objectives. Based on your objectives, you decide on the wall's shape, size and features. Blend the actual location, budget, and your construction expertise together to develop a mental picture. Construct a model and some basic working drawings. Develop a working estimate of construction cost and time. The planning phase ends with a "go, no-go" decision based on the cost and time estimate.

Designing. During design you calculate a specific bill of materials, exact costs, determine specific cut angles, type of joints, support framework, loads and stresses, etc. During the design phase you must clear any technical hurdles before the sawdust starts flying.

Construction. This phase could be the most fun, or the most frustrating. If you have done careful planning and design, the construction will go much smoother.

Finishing. This is the final phase before cranking the holds on. The finishing includes preparing the surface for paint, application, sand texture, and adding a fallzone.

Hope the info above are helpful for you. And if you need a professional manufacturer to build climbing gym or climbing playground, feel free to contact us.

Climb Active Volcanoes

To help those who addicted to adventures, recently, a group of guys rounded up 15 hikeable volcanoes around the world that draw thrill-seekers, nature enthusiasts, and mountain climbing experts to their awe-inspiring peaks. Today JP would like to introduce 5 of them.

If you dare, just try. But no matter which volcano you plan to hike-whether it’s consistently quiet or continuously erupting-make sure you’re up to speed on its alert level before you leave for your trip, as trials may be temporarily closed due to strong gases, eruptions, and other volcanic activity.

No. 1 Mount Etna

Outside Italy's Catania sits the nearly 11,000-foot-tall Mount Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano. Not only has Mount Etna been erupting longer than any other volcano in written history (its first was recorded in 425 B.C.), it also erupts more frequently than most in the world.

Despite its high activity, Mount Etna is fairly safe for nearby residents. To visit, drive or take a bus from Catania’s railway station to the parking lot at Rifugio Sapienza. You will then take a cable car to the station on Mount Etna; once you're there, you can hike along any number of trails to the top.

No.2 Pacaya

Pacaya is roughly a two-hour drive from Antigua and is only possible to climb with a guide. You can hire one at the visitor's center, or you can join a guided tour that leaves from Antigua. If the moderately steep hike seems too arduous, you also have the option to ride a horse to the top for 300 Quetzal (about $40). Don't forget to pack chocolate and graham crackers for the hike: Your guide will be handing you marshmallows to roast on the fumaroles.

No. 3 Mount Aso

At the center of Kyusho, Japan's third largest island, lies Mount Aso. Its caldera is one of the largest in the world, with a 16-mile diameter and an 80-mile circumference. Five volcanic peaks can be found in the caldera; one of them, Mount Nakadake, is an active volcano that has a summit reaching 4,900 feet.

You can reach the Nakadake Crater by taking a bus from JR Aso Station in Aso, Kumamoto, Japan to Asosan Nishi Station. The Ropeway service from the station to the crater is currently suspended, but it's only a 30-minute walk to get there. On the other hand, you can also drive to a parking lot next to the crater (but be prepared to pay a toll on the way).

No. 4 Mount Mayon

The most active volcano in the Philippines, Mount Mayon has erupted approximately 50 times since the 1600s, most recently in January 2018. The trek up the mountain isn't easy, with Trail Adventours ranking it a seven out of 10 in “trail difficulty” for the two-day journey (although you may wish to tack on an extra day). If you're up for the task, head on over to Legaspi in Albay Province; from there, you can take the BUYUHAN trail in Buyahan or the BUANG trail in Tabaco.

No. 5 Mount St. Helens

This 8,300-foot volcano in Washington state offers more than 200 miles of trails, where you'll find a wide variety of scenic points of interest among the rock and ash, including gorgeous waterfalls, lakes, and canyons, an emerging glacier, and otherworldly caves. There are trails for hikers of all skill levels, from the stroller and wheelchair-friendly Meta Lake loop to the 28-mile Loowit Trail. The hike to the summit is no easy feat, but as long as you have a permit, it's well within your reach – no technical skills required.

Plywood Climbing Wall Materials

Climbing wall can be in general made of plywood or glass reinforced polyester material. Today, let’s talk about the plywood climbing walls. Plywood climbing walls have flat or carved surface and are mostly suitable for indoor use. But the climbing surface, when it is coated with a special glaze, gives a feeling of climbing on the rock-like surface.

Sand glazed plywood surface

Special sandglaze mimics natural friction, that comes from rock surface characteristic. In addition to using footholds, such surface can be used also for stepping directly on the climbing panel with the climbing shoes because of excellent friction.

Carved plywood surface

Despite plywood climbing panels have most of the times flat surface, its morphology can be changed by carving micro shapes into the plywood.

Climbing on such surface will become even more challenging. Such technique it is used especially at low/boulder climbing walls, where these in-cuts are used instead of footholds.

Coloured plywood surface

At the customer´s request we can make just coloured climbing surface, without using any of glaze. Such climbing surface is appropriate especially for kid´s climbing walls, because the climbing surface is more smooth and skin friendly. The choice of colors and different patterns is up to the customer.

Printed plywood surface

Climbing will be even more challenging for children, if the surface is printed with attractive motives. Photos, cartoon heroes, didactic motives…can be used.

Any question about JP Climbing Walls’ material, feel free to contact us.

New Playground for New Semester

After hard work in full swing including production and installation, the new playground JP Development built for Beijing Haidian District No.3 Experimental Primary School finally finished construction and can be put into use for kids new spring semester 2018.

With colorful panels, the outdoor climbing wall is a main part of the whole playground. With right height and challenge level, this kind of bouldering wall provide a safe environment for kids to develop their physical strength, agility and strong will.

Rope Net Hill, which looks like a small steep hill, is a challenge program with moderate challenge level for kids. To Get to the peak point, participants should use both feet and hands to climb up on the soft rope net, how painstaking!

Apart from program above, to satisfying kids’ naive nature, there’re also several equipment which are more interesting and attractive for kids, for example, seesaw, swing, tire swing, etc.

Hope the new playground would provide kids in this school with more fun and healthy body.

Go to Climbing Gym Without Partners

Imagine yourself at a climbing wall: you head straight up, carefully grasping each handhold and foothold, a rope connecting a harness around your hips to a pulley above. The only problem: you don’t know who’s going to be on the ground holding the other end of that rope. And so, like many would-be climbers, you stay home. Alone.

But you don’t really need a partner before you head to the gym. Besides bringing somebody to hold and operate your rope—a simple but critical skill known as belaying—you have other options. Here are four ways to get into climbing even if you know zero other climbers:

1. Start with bouldering. Bouldering doesn’t require a rope, because you’re never very far off the ground. (There are mats on the floor, just in case.) You may like it well enough that you forget all about looking for a belaying partner. The bouldering area typically contains marked routes, or “problems,” that you’re supposed to figure out. Try, fall off, rest your arms a minute, and then try again. In between attempts, try chatting with other people who are doing the same. They’ll help you figure out ways to climb, while also setting you up for the next tip:

2. Make friends. Once you’re at the climbing gym, try talking to the people who are there. If somebody looks bored, ask if they’ll belay you, or vice versa. If you’ve never belayed, the gym will probably require you to take a class or lesson first, and you can also meet people during that class or ask your instructor for tips on approaching the regulars.

3. Find a gym with auto-belay. Some gyms have an auto-belay machine that will hold on to your rope and let you down slowly if you fall. You’re on your own when you use it, though; if you forget to clip in, you don’t have a partner who will notice and stop you.

4. Find a group or a class. If your gym offers a climbing class, take advantage, and meet people! You can also look for Facebook groups or meetups online, so you can make friends before you go.

Every climbing gym I’ve been to has felt like a pretty social place (especially the bouldering areas), with people chatting and happily belaying each other. It’s not considered weird to go alone, either. Before your first trip, check out the gym’s website, or call ahead, to find out if they have a large bouldering area or if they offer group classes. Then head off on your own, and have fun!

Introduction to Via Ferrata

A via ferrata (Italian for "iron road", plural vie ferrate or in English via ferratas) is a protected climbing route found in the Alps and certain other locations. The term "via ferrata" is used in most countries and languages except notably in German-speaking countries including Switzerland and Austria, which use Klettersteig (German for "climbing path"), plural Klettersteige.

The essence of a modern via ferrata is a steel cable which runs along the route and is periodically (every 1 to 10 metres (3.3 to 32.8 ft)) fixed to the rock. Using a via ferrata kit, climbers can secure themselves to the cable, limiting any fall. The cable can also be used as aid to climbing, and additional climbing aids, such as iron rungs (stemples), pegs, carved steps and even ladders and bridges are often provided. Thus via ferratas allow otherwise dangerous routes to be undertaken without the risks associated with unprotected scrambling and climbing or the need for climbing equipment such as ropes. They offer the relatively inexperienced a means of enjoying dramatic positions and accessing difficult peaks, normally the preserve of the serious mountaineer; although, as there is a need for some equipment, a good head for heights and basic technique, the via ferrata can be seen as a distinct step up from ordinary mountain walking. Conversely, the modest equipment requirements, ability to do them solo, and potential to cover a lot of ground, mean that via ferratas can also appeal to more experienced climbers.

Via ferratas can vary in length from short routes taking less than an hour, to long, demanding alpine routes covering significant distance and altitude (1,000 metres (3,300 ft) or more of ascent), and taking eight or more hours to complete. In certain areas, such as the Brenta Dolomites, it is possible to link via ferratas together, staying overnight in mountain refuges, and so undertake extensive multi-day climbing tours at high altitude. In difficulty, via ferratas can range from routes that are little more than paths, albeit in dramatic and exposed situations, to very steep and strenuous routes, overhanging in parts, demanding the strength—if not the technique—of serious rock climbing. Generally, via ferratas are done in ascent, although it is possible to descend them.

The origins of the via ferrata date back to the nineteenth century, but they are often associated with the First World War, when several were built in the Dolomite mountain region of Italy to aid the movement of troops. Many more have been developed in recent years, as their popularity has grown and the tourism benefits have been recognised. Over 1000 via ferratas now exist. The majority are found in the Alps, most notably in Italy and Austria. Others are found in a number of European countries, and a few places elsewhere. Via ferratas have traditionally been associated with limestone mountain regions, notably the Dolomites and the Northern Limestone Alps, as the steep nature of the terrain creates the need for some form of protected paths, while the presence of ledges and natural weaknesses means relatively easy but rewarding routes can often be created. However, they are now found in a range of different terrains.

Climb A Skyscraper: London’s 62-Story Office Glass Climbing Wall

In the age of startup companies and culture, perks of the office are a big factor these days. Beyond the typical ping-pong table, catered lunches, gym memberships and snacks, some offices offer even more outlandish perks to entice companies and employees for added benefits.

One such office building is doing just that in London. The Twentytwo building, currently under construction, is a 62-story tower in the middle of the city that will offer some top-notch perks. The most incredible of them all will be a glass climbing wall that will offer spectacular views of London from 410 feet above the ground on the 25th floor.

This is by no means the first glass climbing wall in the world, but it will be the first in London and highlights how prominent climbing gyms have truly become. Entrants will be able to climb routes fixed on clear glass planes overlooking the city and expansive drop. Clearly, this isn’t a great option for those afraid of heights! But for climbers looking to work off some stress after a hard day’s work, the indoor wall with towering views could be a blast.

With a scheduled opening in 2019, you can bet that there will be a few people who take jobs in offices within Twentytwo specifically to get their climb on during lunch, which can be regarded as a good rest activity. However, before it opens, how could you climb a skyscraper to have a stress release?

There’s a good option for you—to climb JP’s Lighted Building Climbing Wall which mimics skyscraper, a fun climbing wall can be built indoor and outdoor and size can be customized.

Apart from this, JP also offers other interesting climbing wall for you to build in your climbing gym. If interested, please feel free to contact us.

General Types of Gym Climbing

When a man is interested in learning how to climb, or looking to amp up his climbing strength and skills, joining a climbing gym is a great way to go. As a result, gym climbing become more and more popular among modern people and lots of business man began to operate climbing gym.

Here are some general types of gym climbing which you should take into consideration when you plan your climbing gym.

Bouldering

Requiring neither a harness nor a rope, bouldering involves routes that are close to the ground. A thick crash pad acts as a protective mat below climbers. Some gyms also require spotters, people who help prevent falls from injuring head and neck.

Bouldering is a great way to build skill because climber can focus solely on using his strength and balance to keep himself on the wall. Novices appreciate the simplicity of it; skilled climbers like the challenge of more difficult routes.

Top–Rope Climbing

This is where a novice enters the world of harness-and-rope climbing. When he’s top roping, the rope is secured to an overhead anchor in the gym. Climber ties into one end of the rope; the other end of the rope is held by a belayer, who manages the rope to catch him in case of a fall. The belayer might be a trained staff person, a friend with belay certification or an auto belay device.

Lead Climbing

Once climber has become a skilled top-rope climber, his next step is lead climbing. When lead climbing, he’ll tie into one end of the rope and clip it into a series of quickdraws that are already attached to bolts on the gym’s wall. Again, you’ll have a belayer.

Lead climbing indoors is very much like sport climbing outside, except that indoors the quickdraws are already in place.

The challenge with lead climbing is that if climber slips or misses the next quickdraw, he’ll fall a short distance back to the previous clipped–in point. That’s a farther, harder fall than he’d have when top-roping.

JP Development provides various gym climbing wall production and construction, welcome to inquire anytime.
